Cooperative Nursery School
A Place to Play operates as a cooperative, which means every family plays a role in keeping the school running safely, efficiently and in line with our obligations under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA). We encourage prospective families to seriously assess their ability to meet these obligations before they enrol in the school.
Family Jobs
Every family takes on a family job. Some parents sit on the school's board of directors, others join one of the school's committees, such as the fundraising and social committees. There are also individual jobs, such as scheduling snack duty, health and safety, classroom maintenance, and toy wash. Jobs are selected at the general meeting in the spring and duties are proportionate to a family’s level of programming. Families with children enrolled in more than one program will be required to take on more responsibility to help ensure the school runs efficiently.
Snack Duty
The daily snack is provided by the parents on a rotational basis, usually once a month. The staff will provide families with a list of approved, school-safe options to select from. When you have Snack Duty, it is also your child’s Special Day! This means they can bring an item for “show and share”, and will be a special helper throughout the day.
Additional Responsibilities:
All families are expected to contribute to fundraising efforts throughout the year and attend two general meetings, one in the fall and one in the spring.
“I’ve met many other families here and love the opportunity to be involved in my child’s education. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a preschool for your little one.”
